Location - Where Is It?
Perth is located on the south-west coast of Australia and is the capital of its largest state, Western Australia. It has been built around the Swan River and lies between the Indian Ocean and a low coastal escarpment known as the Darling Range. It is the fourth largest Australian city and has a population of 1.6 million people, making metropolitan Perth home to more people than the combined population of the rest of Western Australia and the Northern Territory! This is no mean feat considering it lies more that 3,000 km from the populous eastern cities of Melbourne and Sydney, and 2,000 km from Adelaide, making it one of the most remote cities in the world.
