Location - Where Is It?

Located in the southern Australian state of Victoria, Mt Hotham is a popular ski and winter sports destination. It stands 357 kilometres (222 mi) north-east of Melbourne on the Great Alpine Road, which stretches through Victoria’s high plains from Wangaratta to Bairnsdale. Its summit rises to an altitude of 1,861 metres (6,106 ft) above sea level and is part of Australia's Great Dividing Range that stretches from Queensland through to Victoria. All of Australia's principal snow resorts are part of this major geographical feature. The Mount Hotham Village and Ski Resort sits on the mountain at a height of 1,750 metres (5,740 ft), making it the second highest resort village in Australia. The wider area surrounding Mt Hotham falls within the Alpine National Park, which stretches from Gippsland all the way to the New South Wales border where it adjoins Kosciuszko National Park in the Snowy Mountains.
