Driving Safety

As with any travel in the dry and harsh outback of Australia, it pays to be prepared for any situation, especially when driving on isolated desert roads. Carry large amounts of water, a map, a spare tyre and a jerry can of petrol (gas) with you, and it's a good idea to tell someone (friend or family) where you're going and when you're expected back so they can alert the authorities of you don't return. Consult a local or the Visitor Centre before tackling the outback roads and walking paths, they can give you some tips to keep you safe, because beyond Broken Hill's borders is a lot of this...
