Adelaide is the capital city of the Australian state of South Australia, and is the fifth-largest city in the country. A coastal city, it lies between the eastern shores of Gulf St Vincent and is bordered by the Mount Lofty Ranges. It has an estimated population of more than 1.28 million (known as "Adelaideans"), which makes it by far the largest city in the otherwise sparsely populated state.
